MDT 2010 + PowerShell from Windows 7

I like to do everything from my Windows 7 machine.
One administration point with all of my scripts.

So I wanted to access my MDT 2010 server thru PowerShell
from It too.

As default this will not go.
You need to Add-PSSnapIn

Add-PSSnapIn Microsoft.BDD.PSSnapIn

And you will not have that on your Windows 7 machine

out of the box. But It’s not that hard to fix.

Just install MDT 2010 on the Windows 7 machine as well.

This is a 10 MB installation file only

No problem!

And now we can access our MDT solution remote with

PowerShell.

This is a small test script

cls
Add-PSSnapIn Microsoft.BDD.PSSnapIn
New-PSDrive -Name MyMDT -PSProvider MDTProvider -Root \\padc01\DeploymentShare$
cd MyMDT:
dir

And the output will be something like

GodMode not GodMode

Lately GodMode have been a word on lots of Tweets and blogs.

The word GodMode was “invented” by a Journalist, but this
”feature”  can be found documented here at MSDN.

Mabye I will do a larger version of my GodMode installer now

 

Screen Shots in Windows 7

Almost every blogging person will do screen shots
for there blog sometimes. I do it almost everyday and
before I switched to Windows 7 I used Jing Project for this.

One of the best tools I have used.

Now I use the build in tool Snipping Tool.
One thing I have missed from Jing was that I could use
Shortcut key to do a screen shot in Jing.

But I did find a simple solution for this task with Snipping Tools
as well. Okay, It’s not built-in in Snipping Tool, but It’s built-in
in Windows 7.

Just right click on the shortcut to Snipping Tools and
click properties.

Click on Shortcut key and choose your combination.

This is sweet

Okay, this only starts Snipping Tool and in Jing you will
start the Screen Shot chooser with the shortcut key.

 

Windows 7 Godmode

In almost every version of Windows there have been
some special things. Easter eggs or something like that.

I came a cross of a interesting blog post about
enabling secret Windows 7 Godmode.

It should be a shortcut to every settings in Windows 7.

It’s pretty nice and I don’t know if there is another way to access
this other than to do like in the blog post.

I created a new folder in another folder and called It,
GodMode.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}

This folder/shortcut are now in the root folder of my computer.

Läste precis en artikel på E24 om Windows 7.
Rubriken på sidan är “Motlut för Windows 7”.

En undersökning med 100 000 användare och så
står det inte hur användarna installerade Windows 7 eller
vad de hade för Operativ System innan.

Att bara upgradera t ex Windows XP rakt av till WIndows 7
är ju kanske ingen hitt. Men att uppgradera vilket OS som helst
utan att göra en clean install är ingen hitt.

Många datorer kräver en Bios uppgradering innan de funkar
optimalt med Windows 7 och många datorer kräver specialdrivrutiner
från tillverkarna. Men att lasta ner Windows 7 och Microsoft för det,
nja, det kanske inte är helt rätt.

Dessutom så känns det som om man letat fel i undersökningen:

Knappt 30 procent av användarna tyckte sig sakna program som
Mail, Movie Maker och Photo Gallery, som Microsoft
istället vill att kunderna laddar ned från bolagets hemsida.

Kan ju bero på att man vill att Windows 7 ska vara säkrare och ha mer
uppdaterade program? Dessutom ingår ju dessa i Windows Live och installeras
enklare än enklast via ett installationsprogram.

Så jag håller inte med Aftonbladet när de skrev

I deras länk till artikeln.

Gör man enligt best practices och ser till att man har en dator där tillverkaren
säger att Windows 7 funkar så funkar det kanon i de flesta fall.

Men i och med Windows 7 så har jag hittat ett par favoriter.

Themes in Windows 7

Windows 7 has been released and now
you can get lots of stuff for it.

On of the cool and nice are the Windows 7 themes.
Not so much for your work, but it will make your
Windows 7 look nice

And you can get lots of them for free direct from
Microsoft.

At the Personalization gallery you will find Themes,
Background pictures and Gadgets.

Choose a theme and download it.

Click on Open.

The new theme are installed.

Most of the themes just adds Background pictures and that
are great.

One of the cool new features in Windows 7 are the
Next Desktop background. To change it manually Right click
on the desktop and choose Next desktop background.

The default settings for the change of the desktop backgrounds are 30 min.

If you want the backgrounds to change faster click on
the Desktop background icon on the Theme you want to change.

You can also change what pictures you want to show
and If you want them shuffled or not.

It’s 10 modules and lots of scripts for
PowerShell v2 to supercharge your scripting.

This is also a part of the Windows 7 resource Kit.

Öppet hus på Tekniska Museet – windows 7

Nu på fredag är det öppet hus på Tekniska museet om Windows 7.
Portarna öppnas klockan 10.00 och stänger klockan 20.00.

Programmet ser bra ut, så om du har tid är det självklart att
du ska tita förbi en sväng.
